Pre Camp (25th May)
What Sounds Interesting About This Project?
Learning to separate a chemical into its different components sounds like it could be interesting and enriching. Using the different temperatures that increases each time i complete the step to separate the composition of different chemicals and components sounds interesting.

What do you think you can learn from this project?
I can learn how distillation, the process used to derive petroleum from oil, is performed, and how I can do it myself.

Any immediate questions regarding the project?
I do not have any questions, for the moment. Perhaps in the future i might.

First Day (26th May)
What did you today?
We were first taught about the model refinery column, its components and the procedure to use it. Next we poured into the column a mixture of ethanol and water to separate.

What did you learn today?
Distillation is an important but time consuming process that we rely on all the time without even knowing about it.

How do you feel about today's activities?
This project has taught me about distillation including how difficult it can be. However it would help me in the future should I pursue chemical engineering.

Share your insights for the day.
Today was mostly exiting until we started the wait for the mixture to boil. That was boring and time consuming.

Second day (27th May)
What did you do today? We did calculations to figure out the mol fractions in the top and bottom receivers in order to find the respective concentrations of the liquids. Each group also did up their own presentations that was judged.

What did you learn today? The calculation of mol fractions is a very complicated process that was made easier by the use of a external third party program, Microsoft Excel.

How do you feel about today’s activities? My feelings about the days have not changed.

Share your insights for the dayToday was a very boring day, to be honest.

What new questions do you have regarding the discipline?
None

Third Day (28th May)
